BFA Theatre Arts: Acting Concentration
WE PREPARE
Designed to prepare future actors for the professional theatre, this demanding degree focuses on developing the skills and professionalism required for a career in the theatre. The program accepts students who are willing and able to commit to structured, intensive, studio-based training and are searching for a strong acting center to their work both on stage and in front of the camera.
We Pursue Excellence
With a comprehensive and rigorous blend of training, BFA students in the Acting Concentration receive eight levels of acting study centered in the foundational work of Stanislavsky, including on-camera technique, vocal technique for the actor, a variety of movement studies, and directing study complemented by script analysis, and history and criticism courses.
We Practice
Practical training occurs in the classroom and through an aggressive production schedule. Casting in production is accomplished across the degree concentrations and in all genres. Additional performance opportunities exist through Second Stage Productions, the Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honorary Society, and outreach groups affiliated departmentally. In addition, study abroad is an opportunity offered to enrich artistry.
We Create Fun
Acting majors are required to participate in production both as performers and in other capacities. Our goal is to offer each student multiple opportunities to not only work as a performer but to be active participants in the work of the artist in multiple capacities. Acting students have fulfilled roles as Assistant Directors, Stage Managers, Dramaturges, production assistants, and back stage staff.
All acting students are evaluated annually and must meet professional standards to achieve the BFA Acting Theatre Arts: Acting Concentration degree. BFA Performance majors will audition in order to participate in the CCU Senior Showcase, performed in the spring for industry professionals.
