B.F.A. Theatre Arts: Musical Theatre Concentration
WE PREPARE
Designed to train future musical theatre actors for a professional career, the B.F.A. Theatre Arts: Musical Theatre concentration focuses on building and honing the skills required for a life in the professional theatre. The program seeks students who are able to excel in an environment that demands disciplined, rigorous, studio-based training.
We Pursue Excellence
The Musical Theatre concentration embraces the richness and diversity of the art form. Students take classes in acting all eight semesters that include everything from classical training to musical theatre scene study. The acting training is complemented by an intensive eight-semester training track in vocal technique and musicianship. Dance and movement round out the training, which includes classes for both advanced and beginning dancers.
We Practice
Acting is at the center of the Musical Theatre concentration, and students are trained in the classroom and in an aggressive production schedule. Casting in production occurs across degree concentrations and in all genres. Additional performance opportunities exist in Dance Company, Opera Workshop, Senior Recitals and the student-directed and produced Second Stage Productions.
We Create Fun
Musical theatre students are required to participate in production, as both performers and in other capacities. Our goal is to offer each student numerous opportunities to work not only as a performer, but also as an active participant in multiple capacities of production. Musical theatre students have fulfilled roles as Assistant Directors, Stage Managers, Dramaturges, production assistants and back stage staff.
All musical theatre students are evaluated annually and must meet professional standards to achieve the B.F.A. Musical Theatre degree. Musical Theatre students will audition in the fall of senior year in order to participate in the CCU Senior Showcase, performed in the spring for industry professionals.
