BFA Theatre Arts: Design and Production Concentration

Designed for students seeking professional training through an intensive program of theatre studies with a high degree of specialization, the program provides a balance of class work and contribution through production to provide a complete understanding of the theatrical process as it relates to the various areas of design and stage management.
We Pursue Excellence
The design and production concentration provides intensive hands-on experience for students. The demanding class work is complemented by the variety of practical production experiences available through an aggressive production schedule. Students leave with detailed training, a wide variety of experience and a strong professional portfolio that opens doors into the profession or further training at top graduate schools.
We Practice
The design and production concentration provides you with an intensive, hands-on experience through a four-year sequence of courses in design, theater technology, script analysis and visual arts. Demanding class work is combined with a variety of practical production experiences.
The costume, scenic and paint studios are state-of-the-art facilities with several thousand square feet dedicated to production and training in areas ranging from basic drawing to exploration of scenic, lighting and costume design for theatrical production.
We Create Fun
The Costume, Scenic and Paint studios are located across the main campus and are state-of-the-art facilities with several thousand square feet dedicated to departmental production and the training of students. Each studio is supervised by highly qualified managers with years of professional experience. It is, primarily in these studios that rigorous training in all aspects of theatrical production is offered.
Production opportunities abound for the committed student in the Design & Production concentration. Work with faculty designers, guest designers and student design positions for the main stage season are all integral to the program. Additional production and design opportunities exist with Dance Company, Second Stage Productions and in the New Works Reading Series. Intense mentorship is a key component for the growth of the student designer and CCU faculty mentors are provided for every production “role” taken on by a student in this highly-motivated degree program. All students are evaluated annually and must meet professional standards to achieve B.F.A. Theatre Arts: Design and Production Concentration degree.
